Purohit
Smarta tradition, Krishna Yajurveda, Taittiriya shakha; Bodhayana sutra. He has practised in Madurai for 30 years.
The person
He completed his Veda adhyayana at a patashala in Kumbakonam and has served Madurai families as a purohitar for thirty years, most of that time working the marriage and sanskar calendar of one extended neighbourhood around the East Chithirai Street. He follows the Bodhayana sutra as his household does, and says so at the start of a booking, because a family from an Apastamba household will want the ordering adjusted. He learned Malayalam during eleven seasons of Onam-time bookings in Palakkad and now takes work from Kerala families as readily as Tamil ones. His English is plain and he uses it to explain, not to chant.
Where he stands
The school a pandit belongs to and the shakha he was trained in decide the order of the vidhi and the sound of the recitation. Both are stated rather than assumed.
Sampradaya
Smarta
Advaita in doctrine, following Adi Shankara. Rites use the panchayatana form, in which five deities are honoured as aspects of one reality, so a Smarta purohit ordinarily performs across the whole range of household rites.
Lineage
Krishna Yajurveda, Taittiriya shakha; Bodhayana sutra
This lineage was confirmed in writing by his pathashala and vouched for by senior purohits who have practised alongside him. What was examined, and on what date, is set out under Verification.
Verification
Each check below was carried out by our team against a document or a person who could confirm it. A check is dated because a check from three years ago is a different claim from one made last month.
Aadhaar and PAN were checked against the name on his bank account, and a live video selfie was matched to both documents by our onboarding team.
21 Aug 2025
His Taittiriya adhyayana was confirmed in writing by the principal of his Kumbakonam patashala, and two senior Madurai purohitars who have sat with him at the same vivah vedi vouched for the Bodhayana sutra practice he names.
4 Sept 2025
He recited the Rudram, the Chamakam and the full vivah homa sequence before a three-member review panel, which assessed svara, ghana-paatha and his handling of the Bodhayana ordering.
25 Sept 2025
He completed a recorded rehearsal from the marriage hall he most often works in: two fixed angles on the homa kunda, a lapel microphone and a second microphone at the vedi, and an uplink measured at 7 Mbps sustained over two hours.
18 Dec 2025
A police verification certificate from the Madurai city commissionerate dated 27 January 2026 was received, along with references from three families whose weddings and sanskars he has conducted across two generations.

Expertise
Specialities are the families of rite he has trained and practised in, not everything the catalogue offers.
Languages
The mantras themselves are recited in Sanskrit whoever performs them. What the list above changes is the language the sankalp is taken in, and the language the rite is explained in as it proceeds — which is the part a family follows.
Rites
Each one states its vidhi, its samagri and what differs between tiers before you commit to anything.
Shiva
रुद्राभिषेक
A continuous pouring over the Shiva linga — water, milk, curd, ghee, honey, sugar and more, in fixed order — while the Sri Rudram is chanted.
Ganesha
विवाह संस्कार
The Vedic wedding rite. Two families are joined before Agni, and the couple walks the saptapadi — the seven steps that complete the marriage.
Navagraha
नवग्रह शान्ति हवन
A nine-square vedi is laid in coloured grain, each graha is invoked in its own place, and the ahuti are offered with the nine prescribed woods — arka for Surya through kusha for Ketu.
Vishnu
विष्णुसहस्रनाम
The thousand names of Vishnu from the Anushasana Parva of the Mahabharata, recited with tulsi archana on Ekadashi and Saturdays.
Ganesha
नामकरण संस्कार
Performed on the eleventh or twelfth day after birth. The child is shown the sun, the janma nakshatra gives the first syllable, and the name is spoken into the ear before it is announced.
Shiva
महामृत्युञ्जय होम
The Tryambakam mantra of the Rigveda, offered into fire with a declared count. Families keep it during illness, convalescence and long strain.
Ganesha
अन्नप्राशन संस्कार
The first solid food, given between the sixth and eighth month. Kheer is offered to the deity, then placed on the child's tongue by an elder.
Ganesha
माङ्गल्य शान्ति
A shanti performed for a married couple — before the wedding where the charts show Mangal dosha, or later on an anniversary or a milestone year.

He conducted my son's wedding, twenty-six years after conducting mine. The girl's family follows Apastamba and ours Bodhayana; he sat with both sets of elders a month before and settled the ordering so there was no discussion on the day itself. He kept to the muhurat to the minute. Everything from the nandi to the mangalya dharanam was explained in Tamil for the elders and in English for the cousins from Boston.

We are a Malayali family in Dubai and he guided the choroonu over video in Malayalam, which my mother-in-law appreciated more than I can describe. He had asked in advance what rice we had and adjusted the preparation to what is available here. The whole thing took thirty-five minutes and the baby was in a good mood for most of it, which he clearly planned for by keeping her part last.

Booked for my father's sashtiabdapoorthi week. He arrived the previous evening to check the space and told us honestly that our hall could not take a full nine-kunda arrangement, and suggested the single-kunda form instead rather than cramming it in. That kind of straight answer is rare. The havan itself ran two and a half hours and he named each graha and its adhidevata as he offered.

Booked as a monthly parayanam on my mother's tithi. He sends a short note afterwards each time saying the date, the tithi and the nakshatra, nothing more, and that has become something I look forward to. The recitation is steady and he does not speed up towards the end the way some do.

Thorough and calm, and he took time to explain what the rite traditionally marks rather than leaving us to guess. He was frank that his diary in the Aadi and Margazhi months is nearly full, so we had to move our date twice. Worth the wait, but plan early if you want a specific muhurat.
