The person
She completed the purohita course at Jnana Prabodhini in Pune, which has trained women priests since the 1990s, and has conducted sanskars in and around the city for fourteen years. Her practice is built on the sixteen sanskars: namkaran, annaprashan and mundan through the year, vivah through the Maghi and Vaishakh seasons, and vastu shanti for families moving into new flats in Baner and Wakad. She works from the Prabodhini's Marathi-Sanskrit vidhi books, which set the sankalp and the mantras side by side, and she hands the family a copy so they can follow the words rather than watch. She takes shraddha and tarpan bookings as well, and says at the outset which families in her experience prefer to check that with their elders first.

The school a pandit belongs to and the shakha he was trained in decide the order of the vidhi and the sound of the recitation. Both are stated rather than assumed.

She recited the namkaran and vastu shanti sequences and the vivah homa in full before a three-member review panel, which assessed svara, pada-paatha and the correct ordering of the vidhi.

She completed a recorded rehearsal from a client flat in Kothrud: one wide angle on the room, one close angle on the chowki, a lapel microphone, and an uplink measured at 7 Mbps sustained over an hour.

A police verification certificate from the Pune city commissionerate dated 16 March 2026 was received, together with references from Jnana Prabodhini and from two families whose three sanskars she has conducted since 2018.

The first entry into a new home — the kalash carried across the threshold, the dwar puja at the main door, and milk set to boil over on the new hearth.

Performed on the eleventh or twelfth day after birth. The child is shown the sun, the janma nakshatra gives the first syllable, and the name is spoken into the ear before it is announced.

The first solid food, given between the sixth and eighth month. Kheer is offered to the deity, then placed on the child's tongue by an elder.

Performed before or alongside griha pravesh. The vastu purusha mandala is drawn, the directional guardians are named, and the fire is offered at the centre of the house.

The rite kept for a departed parent or elder on the tithi of their passing — pind daan, tarpan of water and black til, and a meal offered in their name.

चूडाकर्म संस्कार
The eighth of the sixteen samskaras. The child’s first hair is offered, and the family gathers to mark that infancy has passed.

She came for our son's barsa and brought printed vidhi booklets for everyone in the room, Marathi on one side and the Sanskrit on the other. My aunt, who is eighty and has attended a hundred of these, said afterwards that it was the first time she had understood the sankalp. The whole thing took an hour and she stayed to answer questions about the nakshatra syllable.

Booked for our new flat. She visited two days earlier to see where the kund could sit and confirmed with the society office about the smoke, which we had not thought of. On the day she started at the muhurat exactly and finished in the time she had quoted. My brothers had reservations at first and she addressed that directly on the call rather than leaving it unsaid, which I thought was the right way to handle it. The vidhi was done exactly as our family has always done it; she asked for our kula practice beforehand and followed it. Marked four only because Nagpur is outside her usual travel range and the fare made it costlier than we had budgeted.
