Who performs it
The temple
Shani Shingnapur
A village shrine in Ahmednagar district, Maharashtra, where a black stone slab regarded as swayambhu stands in the open on a plain platform, without roof or spire above it. Worship is by abhishek of sesame oil and by darshan from the platform steps, and Saturday draws the largest gathering of the week. The village is widely documented for its old custom of building houses without door frames or locks, a practice the community ties to its trust in Shani’s presence.

Pandit
Girish Trivedi
He trained at a pathashala in Ujjain and has served as a visiting ritvik at Mahakaleshwar for many years, which means his day begins well before the Bhasma Aarti. Rudrabhishek is his ordinary daily work, and he also conducts Maha Mrityunjaya and Shani Shanti havans for families who have been advised these by their own jyotishi. Gujarati families in Ahmedabad and Dubai book him regularly; he speaks Gujarati through the sankalp so that the elders in the room are never left guessing at what is being said. When a family asks him whether a ritual will change an outcome, he tells them plainly that it is a tradition to be kept, not a transaction.
